Free Mobile Tones Make Collecting Ringtones Easy
Ringtones are addictive. They are the “bling bling” of cell phones. Having a large collection of ringtones is almost a status symbol! Free mobile tones are like gold to a cell phone user (and who ISN’T a cell phone user?). Sometimes a cell phone subscriber can receive free mobile tones through special promotional offers from his or her service provider. They are also available through some websites, though potential buyers should read all fine print to look for hidden charges.
Perhaps one of the most common trends among ringtones is assigning a personal tone for each contact, or at least the primary contacts who call. For example, assigning a romantic love song as the ringtone for a significant other or a happy song for a best friend is very trendy. To buy a ringtone for each contact can be a bit pricey, with ringtones costing an average of three dollars per tone. Free mobile tones offered through ringtone websites and cell phone service providers can make the ringtone collecting a little less expensive.
In the ringtone world, there are three types of tones: monophonic, polyphonic, and full music tones. The monophonic tone was the first type of ring available on cell phones. These tones are only capable of playing one note at a time. Compared to popular tones today, monophonic sounds very archaic. Polyphonic tones are capable of playing up to forty notes at a time, and do sound more like an actual song. However, polyphonic tones do not sound as good as a full music tone and do not contain lyrics. Many offers for free mobile tones are polyphonic.
Full music tones are the “cream of the crop” and are the most popular of the three types. They are also referred to as true tones, voice tones, or MP3 tones. These ringtones are actually MP3 clips. They are complete with vocals and all musical accompaniments. More advanced cell phones are capable of functioning as a full MP3 player, allowing the user to transfer entire MP3 files from computers or ipods directly onto the phone. With this feature, users can take their favorite MP3, “clip” their favorite part (like the chorus of a song), and transfer that clip to the phone. In a sense, this is like a free mobile tone as the clip itself can be assigned like any other ringtone.
